AI character generator

Describe a vibe and Character Lab returns something you can actually use twice: a name with a traceable meaning, a pronunciation, a sheet locking the look and the voice, a generated portrait, and three episodes the character can already carry.

Real outputs, not a promo reel

Finished, self-hosted Frutti episodes — the same engine and pipeline this generator runs. Judge the output before paying anything.

0:31
Locker-room fruit dramaA finished vertical episode with a recurring fruit cast, spoken dialogue, motion, sound design, and burned-in captions.
0:42
Animal dramaAn animal cast with spoken dialogue, expressive framing, and burned-in captions, rendered as one continuous episode.
0:34
Organ ensembleTalking organs with distinct voices and a full story beat structure. Absurd cast in, finished vertical episode out.
Free, no account

Write your first AI character episode.

Pick a premise or write your own, and read the episode before you pay for anything. No prompt engineering, no editing, no account.

Story

Your one-line premise becomes a scene-by-scene script with a conflict and a payoff.

Cast

Original characters are designed and kept consistent from scene to scene.

Voices

Every character gets a distinct AI voice — dialogue is performed, not subtitled.

Captions

Word-timed captions are burned in, styled to stay readable with the sound off.

Export

One finished 9:16 episode for TikTok, Shorts and Reels. No editor, no export settings.

A character is a sheet, not a picture

Most character generators hand back an image. An image is the least reusable thing you can be given, because the next render produces a different creature wearing roughly the same colours. Anyone who has tried to build a series this way has watched their lead quietly change species between episode two and episode three.

What survives across renders is written, not drawn: the exact wardrobe, the proportions, the one object always in frame, the vocal register, the flaw that starts the argument. Character Lab writes those first and draws from them, which is why the portrait is the last step here instead of the only one.

The naming is treated as a real job too. A name that means something can be explained, and a name that can be explained gets repeated. The lab traces every part of the name back to an actual word rather than inventing an etymology after the fact.

Ideas that produce a usable character

The generator needs a contradiction, not a description. A crocodile is a noun. A crocodile that believes it is aircrew is a character with an argument already inside it.

  • a crocodile that thinks it is a fighter jet
  • a ballerina who is made entirely of coffee and knows it
  • a vending machine that has given up on life
  • a pigeon that runs a parking garage and enforces the rules
  • a teapot that never stops whistling and considers this a personality
  • a hamster working border control who takes the job extremely seriously

The same face, every episode

A channel is people the audience recognises. Once a character exists as a sheet, every future episode casts it instead of inventing a stranger, and the account starts compounding rather than resetting each post.

How Frutti compares

Frutti made this page and Frutti is in the table. Each row describes what the vendor's own product page says the tool is built to do; we have not bench-tested the others' output, and every tool here, ours included, has a job it does better than the rest, and a job it does worse. Checked 4 September 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI character generator?

A tool that turns a short description into a complete character: a name, a look precise enough to reproduce, a voice, a flaw, and a first set of scenes. Frutti's version writes the character sheet before drawing anything, because the sheet is what makes the character reusable.

Can I use these characters commercially?

Yes. The characters are generated for you and are original by construction. The generator will not build a character owned by a studio, a game or a franchise, and it will not use a real person.

Does it draw the character too?

Yes. It writes the sheet, then renders a portrait from that sheet so the two agree. The portrait is part of the paid run; the written character is free to preview without an account.

How do I keep the character consistent across videos?

Reuse the sheet. The look, voice and flaw rows are written to be pasted into the next generation unchanged. Changing any of them starts a different character, which is the most common way a series accidentally loses its lead.

Is it free?

Naming the character and writing its sheet is free and needs no account. Drawing the portrait and rendering video are paid, because both cost real money per call.
